Dr Nitish Jhawar received best paper award for his presentation at 4th International Conference of Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India held at Grand Hyatt from 23rd to 26th May 2009. He presented a video series of cases of Laparoscopic repair of Diaphragmatic Hernia.

A diaphragmatic hernia is a defect in which there is an abnormal opening in the diaphragm, the muscle that helps you breathe. The opening allows part of the abdominal organs to move into the chest area. Person usually presents with breathing difficulty.

Diaphragmatic hernias are technically challenging to repair. There is growing experience with a laparoscopic minimal access approach to these defects. Laparoscopic repair appears safe and is associated with a shorter hospital stay.
