What is GERD?
Esophagus is the tube that carries food from mouth to stomach. Gastroesophageal
reflux disease (GERD) happens when a muscle at the end of
esophagus does not close properly. This allows stomach contents to leak back,
or reflux, into the esophagus and irritate it.
Person may feel a burning
in the chest or throat called heartburn
.
Sometimes, he can taste stomach fluid in the back of the mouth.
What are the indications for GI endoscopy?
Indications for GI endoscopy: -

Persistent nausea or vomiting,
after any non gastrointestinal origin and acute intestinal occlusion have been eliminated.

Gastro-oesophageal reflux (GORD)

Difficulty swallowing,

Acute gastrointestinal bleeding
originating in the upper gastrointestinal tract.
